One of the major manufacturers of backpacks today is the company known as High Sierra. They are well-known in this area as a producer of backpacks incorporating innovative designs and quality materials and construction -- yet their backpacks are also sold at a very competitive price. Let me describe a few of their products to help you get a feel for the kind of merchandise they offer --
I'll begin with the High Sierra Crush Backpack. Priced from $24.86 -- $54.99, these high Sierra backpacks are designed for multimedia and high-tech students. These backpacks are equipped with a padded interior computer sleeve that is capable of storing a 15 inch laptop safely. These high Sierra backpacks also feature a MP3/CD player pocket and a headphone port as well as a media pocket that is capable of holding a cell phone or a PDA. It is also equipped with a zippered mesh pocket in the organizer section which also has pencil/pen pockets and a key fob.
Another great backpack design from High Sierra is their "Swerve" pack. The normal list price on these backpacks is $65, and they are available in the following color schemes -- Charcoal/Chipotle/Black, Amazon/Ash/Black, Blossom/Satin Sheet/Black, Spring/Satin Sheet/Black and Glacier/Blue Shadow/Black. These are large-capacity backpacks and come complete with a padded interior computer sleeve for your laptop, music device player with a headphone port, and ventilated shoulder straps to keep you cool. These high Sierra backpacks are designed with a fully padded bottom, a mesh padded grab handle and back panel and a tuck-away waist belt.
The third model I have to mention is the High Sierra Col 35 Frame Backpack. These high Sierra backpacks are priced from $41.79 -- $79.99. Features on these models include a 35 Liter, top-load main compartment, padded backpack straps and a single-contoured aluminum frame bar that is adjustable to fit the exact shape of your back. The main compartment of this high Sierra backpack is constructed with a gusseted drawstring closure and an adjustable top lid. It also features a molded foam back panel and an internal hydration reservoir sleeve -- for storage of your favorite liquid and easy drinking while you're on the trail.
Here's one of my favorites: the High Sierra Old School Backpack. Priced from $20.25 -- $42.45, this high Sierra backpack has a very large capacity: 1,774.5 cubic inches. It, too, is a multi--compartment backpack and has standard features such as a zippered mesh pocket, pen pockets and key fob, a CD/MP3 player pocket with its own headphone port and also a media pocket that is roomy enough to hold a cell phone or a PDA device. This high Sierra backpack is also equipped with a slash pocket on the front panel, a daisy chain loop and a ribbed grab handle. It is 19.5" x 13" x 7" and weighs approximately 1 pound when empty.
Finally, this is my favorite -- the High Sierra Ballzak Pack. Very inexpensively priced from $14.38 -- $39.99, this is a specialty item -- designed for student-athletes, this high Sierra backpack is equipped with a very large mesh pocket in the front which is designed to hold a basketball or soccer ball! As well, it has all of the standard components found in most high Sierra backpacks: a large main compartment, and zippered side pockets (which in this case are large enough to hold a pair of athletic shoes!), a music device player pocket and headphone port and also a cell phone pocket on the shoulder strap. If you have a young person who is also an athlete on your gift-giving list, this would make an excellent, excellent choice -- this Sierra backpack incorporates a truly unique design. Measuring 18.5 x 14 x 8 inches, it weighs 2 pounds when empty. Highly recommended!
